Words Hurt: Take The Pledge & Stand Up Against Bullying + GIVEAWAY!

As children, teens, and even adults each and every one of us has experienced bullying in some shape or form. Whether we have been a victim or a witness, there is no denying that it is toxic and damaging. Sometimes those who are doing the bullying or teasing do not realize how hurtful their words are. Most younger children do not even think twice about the consequence that follows soon after. While some have tough skin, words hurt and often lead to permanent damage. Being bullied can lead to depression, low self esteem, anxiety, and an overwhelming feeling of loneliness. Long term effects also include substance abuse and even suicide. 

Bullying can be defined by three types of abuse. It is not ONLY delivered by verbal attacks but also physical and emotional. Badgering, repeated aggressive behavior, teasing, name calling, and intentionally causing someone harm are all considered forms of bullying. I can guarantee that everyone has experienced one of the listed behaviors. Regardless of which form it is delivered in, it is in no way acceptable and should not be tolerated.

When I was 15 years old and a sophomore in high school I had my own experience with bullying. As a teenager I was quiet, shy, and kept to myself most of the time. I had my select group of friends and a solid social circle. At the same time I didn’t like to be the center of attention. I actually hated it. Being a teenager isn’t easy anyways. Those are the years we develop insecurities, begin to compare ourselves to others, and over-analyze just about everything. Not to mention being a teenage GIRL is even more stressful! At this time I began dating and had my first “real” boyfriend. Along with the excitement of this life changing event came a lot of un-necessary drama. For months I had to deal with an over-bearing ex girlfriend and her minions that followed her every command. I couldn’t walk to class without encountering one or all of them trying to make feel uncomfortable for their pleasure. Not only did I receive dirty looks and smug comments but I experienced the same treatment online.  

Most of the bullying was done on the good old internet in my situation. It seems like it is much easier to hide behind a computer screen and say horrible things to someone. It is sad to think that people can be so cruel and saying hateful things to make them feel better about themselves. At this time I was called every name in the book and criticized about every imperfection I possessed. It was just a bad time for me. It put such a damper on my self esteem and at times made me question myself. Thankfully I had an amazing support system to back me up. I made it out of “bullying” in one piece and even stronger today. Take THAT jealousy and ignorance! 

 
Educating our children on bullying is beyond important. Take the pledge above and stand against bullying. We have to start somewhere and each small step counts. There is power in numbers and if each person takes the pledge to put an end to this act of abuse, a positive change can be made. It only takes a few minutes of your time and in turn you can be assured that you are contributing to a wonderful cause.



Here are a few tips from KidsHealth.org on taking action against bullying with your own children:

  • Take bullying seriously. Make sure your kids understand that you will not tolerate bullying at home or anywhere else. Establish rules about bullying and stick to them. If you punish your child by taking away privileges, be sure it’s meaningful. 

  • Teach kids to treat others with respect and kindness. Teach your child that it is wrong to ridicule differences (i.e., race, religion, appearance, special needs, gender, economic status) and try to instill a sense of empathy for those who are different. Consider getting involved together in a community group where your child can interact with kids who are different.

  • Learn about your child’s social life. Look for insight into the factors that may be influencing your child’s behavior in the school environment (or wherever the bullying is occurring). Talk with parents of your child’s friends and peers, teachers, guidance counselors, and the school principal. Do other kids bully? What about your child’s friends? What kinds of pressures do the kids face at school? Talk to your kids about those relationships and about the pressures to fit in. Get them involved in activities outside of school so that they meet and develop friendships with other kids.

  • Encourage good behavior. Positive reinforcement can be more powerful than negative discipline. Catch your kids being good — and when they handle situations in ways that are constructive or positive, take notice and praise them for it.

  • Set a good example. Think carefully about how you talk around your kids and how you handle conflict and problems. If you behave aggressively — toward or in front of your kids — chances are they’ll follow your example. Instead, point out positives in others, rather than negatives. And when conflicts arise in your own life, be open about the frustrations you have and how you cope with your feelings.



Have you had a talk with your children about bullying? As parents it is our job to educate them on treating others with respect and how important it is to be kind to everyone. It is never too soon to instill these behaviors and build confidence! Take the pledge for yourself and your child.

Each morning waking up and following a steady routine can be considered slightly chaotic and just a tad bit unorganized around here. This year I have had to get used to going back to work and getting up before the sun completely rises. While it has been a smooth transition for myself, my toddler on the other hand is not the happiest when told to “rise and shine!” At some point I found myself running out of  ideas to get her excited and willing to roll out of her comfy bed. For some time chocolate chip pancakes, homemade waffles, and animal shaped toast was good enough. But as many fellow parents may know, toddlers get bored pretty darn quick when it comes to routine! They want something new. They want to try different things. Sometimes they don’t even WANT to eat before school. My daughter has to be the pickiest eater I have ever encountered. It is difficult enough for me to get her to actually consume food, much less enjoy it. It has to be her idea and if it isn’t, well good luck! It‘s much easier for me to get her to drink a big glass of OJ than it is to eat a plate of food. Even at that, she gets tired of the same ol’ juices we have the fridge.

LYSOL: A Touch Of Foam Antibacterial Hand Wash Review

Lately, Bzzagent has been pumping all of their agents up with new campaigns and exciting product launches. Not too long ago I was invited to participate in the “Lysol Touch Of Foam Antibacterial Hand Wash” program. Washing your hands in a necessity and it’s something that each of us do every single day, several times a day. Being a mom, germs are impossible to avoid and the common cold strikes every other week. This is why it’s so important to have a soap that cleanses, kills the bacteria, and consistently delivers what it promises. As parents healthy living matters to us most, and it also matters to Lysol. They have created this new antibaterial wash to keep our hands clean and also soft. The rich lather is gentle on the skin but tough on determined bacteria that doesn’t want to budge. As a bzzagent I had the opportunity to try one of these foaming soaps for myself. I was given the “Creamy Vanilla Orchid” scent and my entire household has been using it for the past week.
I’m embarrassed to say that I have never actually smelled an orchid before. Maybe I have and I just didn’t realize it. Normally when I go to the store and pick up flowers I grab the first bundled bunch I see. I don’t usually pay attention to  the kind of flowers inside. They just have to be alive and blooming beautifully. But if the orchid flower itself smells anything like this hand soap, I think I will begin purchasing them on a regular basis! In addition to the light flowery scent, it also has a hint of sweet vanilla that compliments it perfectly. It’s not too strong and at the same time it leaves a very pleasant aroma behind. It’s the kind of odor your would WANT lingering around in your bathroom or kitchen after washing.

As far as the foam goes, I jumped on this train as soon as I saw the first bottle hit the shelves. After discovering the “foam” craze a few years ago, I noticed many brands were finding their own unique way of dispensing their product in this form. I‘ve never been a big fan of liquid soaps and the mess they leave behind. It seems like no matter how hard you try, you will always have that thin string of soap that seeps from the nozzle and creates a pile on your counter. With the foam dispenser, you do not have to worry about any mess. A few pumps and you have the perfect amount to get your hands clean and remove 99.9% of the bacteria. There is no sticky pile or waste of soap. The bottle is also more attractive and it appears as a higher end soap that looks pretty next to the sink. Since the formula contains moisture enriched micro bubbles, your hands are left soft and silky after every wash. Most soaps tend to dry out the skin, leaving it cracked and uncomfortable. After using this soap I do not even have to use lotion. My hands feel wonderful!

I have been enjoying the new Lysol Touch of Foam Antibacterial Hand Wash and so has my family along with guests. My daughter uses it on a daily basis whether she has dirty hands or not. I think she may just like the fun foam but I have caught her in the bathroom several times this week alone! She definitely has the cleanest and softest hands in the house right now…

If that isn’t enough, it also comes in 2 different fragrances: Alpine Fresh with Bleach and Sapphire Waters without bleach.
