It may be the beginning of September but the fall season has already made its way into our home. This time of year can never arrive sooner and once the iconic pumpkin spiced latte is released, that’s a green light to get the decorations out. Fall is the feel-good season because it opens the door for festive activities, hay rides, colorful leaves, homemade baked goodies that leave the house smelling delicious, crisp cool air, and the excuse to eat all things made with pumpkin! Growing up I had my fair share of insecurities and awkward moments. Until middle school I was always the tallest child in my class, had an unruly frizzy perm accompanied by the biggest bangs you could fit on a human forehead, pale skin, huge round glasses with thick frames, crooked pinkies (which I share with my mom and daughter), and a shy personality to hide behind. Even though most of this was the norm in the 90’s it still took a lot of time for me to embrace my beauty, goofiness and all. I have a confession. I strongly dislike HATE doing my daughter’s hair. I try, I really do… but I’m just not very good at it. You would think after spending many years doing my own hair I would have somehow mastered the common pony tail and maybe even a braid here and there. Tomorrow night the anticipated 2014 MTV Video Music Awards are being held in Inglewood, California. It’s hard to believe that this will be their 31st annual show. I have been watching the VMA’s since I was in middle school and always look forward to the performances. This year artists like Beyoncé, Eminem, Katy Perry, and Miley Cyrus will be facing off for a “moonman” to call their own. I really enjoy watching the pre-show. This is the first time you get to see all of the stars walk the red carpet with their beautiful dresses, flawless makeup, and rockin’ hair. My hair has its good day and it has its bad days. Then it has those days where I look in the mirror and think to myself, “Is this REALLY what I have to work with right now?” I’ve been coloring, cutting, and altering my hair for over 10 years.
