Happy National S’mores day friends and foodies! I realized last week that somewhere someone created a calendar that celebrates just about all my favorite foods and desserts. There’s one for pizza, ice cream sandwiches, watermelon, chicken wings, and even zucchini. Zucchini, really? But today we are celebrating one of the sweetest treats, S’mores. What better way to glorify the ooey gooey marshmallow and chocolate graham cracker sandwich than with these Smore’s Donuts! In all seriousness, I have made quite a few yummy desserts over the course of three years and these may now be ranking in first place as an all time favorite. When you can’t stop at just one, you know it’s the real deal-sweet tooth utopia. Come on in… we’ve got donuts.
Ingredients:
- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 1 1/2 cups of water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 eggs
- 3-4 Hershey’s milk chocolate bars
- semi-sweet chocolate chips
- graham crackers
- marshmallow fluff
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray donut pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- In large stand mixer prepare boxed cake mix according to the instructions on the back of the package. Combine eggs, water, oil, and mix- beat until blended.
- Use a cake decorating bag or plastic sandwich bag to fill each ring shaped compartment of the donut pan with batter.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until donuts are cooked all the way through. Remove from the oven and allow donuts to cool on baking rack.
- In a medium sized microwave safe bowl, heat marshmallow fluff for 60 seconds or until soft enough to dip donuts in. Stir until consistency in creamy. Dip the top of each donut into the marshmallow and return to the baking rack. Be careful not to heat the marshmallow for too long. Once it’s burned you cannot salvage it.
- In separate bowl melt milk chocolate bars in 60 second intervals, stirring in between. Drizzle chocolate on marshmallow frosting and top with crumbled graham crackers.
Not that I found any issue with this BUT these donuts are best consumed immediately or the same day. If not, the marshmallow tends to sink into the donut itself and you don’t get that rich gooey bite that you would if they were fresh. When the marshmallow is sticky and the chocolate is warm they taste identical to a traditional s’more. For the days when the weather is icky and a campfire isn’t practical, S’mores Donuts are a scrumptious alternative. This is one treat you will love sinking your teeth into!
