As you may have noticed, we are patiently waiting in excitement for the release of the Shaun The Sheep Movie next week! The movie theater has been our sanctuary this summer when the weather is icky and the sunshine is hiding behind the clouds. Sometimes popcorn and a few good laughs are all you need to cure the rainy day blues. As Shaun goes on his epic adventure from the farm to a big city we get to see all of the silly shenanigans that follow him and his flock. If the movie is anything like than trailer than I am expecting quite a few hilarious scenes.
This past weekend Toodie & I created a Shaun The Sheep Glass Marble Ornament out of an old mason jar lid and flat glass marbles that were once used in a decorative vase. After a few squirts of hot glue we were able to re-purpose them both and create a fun decoration. This would be an adorable addition to any little fan’s bedroom or Christmas tree as the holidays roll around!
Materials:
- large mason jar lid
- clear glass marbles (preferably flat)
- white & black construction paper
- 2 large googly eyes
- pencil
- hot glue gun
- scissors
- q-tips or cotton balls
Directions:
1. Place the mason jar lid upside down on a white sheet of construction paper. Trace and cut out the circle. Attach to the top of the lid with a generous amount of hot glue.
2. Line the outside of the circle with glue and place down glass marbles next to on another until a ring is formed.
3. Continue in the same pattern until the whole circle is filled with the flat marbles. It helps to sort through them ahead of time, making two piles separating the smaller sizes and the larger. You will notice once you start to get closer to the middle that precision is important because the larger marbles will leave gaps and you can cover more area using the small ones. If you realize you don’t have room, they should pop off easily and you can re-think your marble placement strategy!
4. Cut Shaun’s head out of black construction paper and attach it to the middle of the sheep’s body.
5. Attach your googly eyes and use cotton balls or the ends q-tips to create his hair.
6. To turn this into a decoration or ornament, glue a string or ribbon on the inside edge of the lid. Make sure it is strong enough to hold because the marbles will make it quite heavy.
