Let’s talk holiday baking today. Not the kind from scratch that leaves us scraping batter off of the kitchen counter or finding peppermint candies stuck in our hair two days later. I’m talking the easy kind, the kind we do when we have to fill 10 gift tins with a cute and also edible cookie. During the holidays baking should be a breeze. We have a million other things going on- shopping, wrapping, hosting, decorating, and so on. I am always looking for a way to simplify the process so it’s enjoyable and gives me the opportunity to create new traditions that I can build upon the following year. You can imagine how excited I was to find the new Nestle Tollhouse Cookie Dough Sheets because they make baking quick, easy, stress free, and fun!
I had some down time this weekend so I decided to put my cookie decorating skills to the test. I learned two things in the process: Nestle Tollhouse Cookie Dough Sheets are a blessing to busy moms like myself and I was not a cookie decorator in my past life. Although, I think I did a darn good job putting that little snowman together even if it did take me a long time!
Using the cookie dough sheets is just as simple as it looks. Each package comes with two individual sheets in which you can cut into squares, roll into cookie balls, or use cookie cutters to create fun festive shapes. You will spend less time preparing the dough and more time on the cookie itself. These are great if you are hosting a cookie decorating party or making a special treat with your kids the night before Santa arrives.
I used the Nestle Tollhouse Sugar Cookie Dough Sheets and a snowman shaped cutter for my main cookie. I didn’t want the excess dough to go to waste so I also made little snowballs to stick with the winter theme.
The bake time is one of the best parts about the cookie dough sheets because they only need about 8-10 minutes in the oven. Since these cookie dough sheets are already prepared you don’t have to worry about balancing your ingredients to get the “perfect” cookie texture. They will be top notch every single time, as long as you don’t let them burn!
Once the cookies are cooled off it is time to decorate. You can use a store bought frosting or whip up your own at home. I wanted my snowman cookies to have a smooth satin finish. Here is how you can achieve that as well:
- 1 1/2 cups of confectioners sugar
- 2 1/2 tbs. of room temperature water
- 1 tsp. light corn syrup
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
Add all ingredients in medium sized bowl. Whisk until smooth and thick. Pour into a squeeze bottle and line edges of cookies first. Fill in the outline with additional frosting and allow to set. For speedy results you can stick them in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes. Icing will not be completely firm but it will be hard enough for you to decorate without it slipping and sliding around.
